Helpful Hints for Your Bath Vanity

Remodeling your bathroom can include replacing your bathroom vanity. Your vanity can be fairly easy to install if you’re a big do-it-yourself type. Whether you fix everything around the house or this is your first home improvement project, there are a couple of important things to remember.

Tips for Installing Your Bath Vanity

The term “slow and steady wins the race” applies to all home repairs and improvements. Work slowly and carefully and your vanity will look professionally installed. Quick, sloppy work will make your vanity look slipshod:

• Measure the space in your bathroom for your vanity before you make your purchase. This will eliminate any guesswork when you decide on the dimensions for your vanity.

• When your vanity arrives, put any varnishes or finishes on it before you install if it comes unfinished.

• Remove the doors on your vanity before you install it to minimize the damage to both the body of the vanity and the doors.

• Be prepared. Have all of your equipment and tools ahead of time. Put away your pets if they have a tendency to get in the way of your work and make sure that the bathroom is clear of items that could break or get in your way.

• Make sure that you’ve turned off and drained the plumbing for your faucet before you install your vanity. This will make it easier for you to install your faucet later.

• Measure your vanity in three different places for height and width, usually the middle and either end. Triple check your measurements. Use the tallest and longest measurement as your guide.

• Mark the area of your vanity on the wall it will be attached to and find at least one stud in that area to secure your bathroom vanity cabinets.

• Make sure that your bath vanity is level, both across the vanity and toward the wall, before you attach it. Use wood shims to level the vanity, if necessary before attaching the vanity.

Those are just a few things that you must consider during your home remodel, so be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions and to follow a professional guide while you install your fixtures. You always have the option to call a professional contractor if you feel like you’ve gotten over your head at any point.
