Bedroom Vanities for Children and Adults

Little girls beg for small pink or white bedroom vanities to make them feel like princesses or so they can pretend to be grown-ups. Adult women with vanities either have them because they feel more sophisticated or to enjoy the nostalgia of their childhood vanities. Either way, a bedroom vanity is an attractive and functional addition to any girl’s or woman’s bedroom.

Children’s Bedroom Vanities

Children’s vanities are usually child-sized, which means a small vanity table and chair or bench suitable for a girl aged 5-9. They’re usually wood, but may be plastic, and are designed to look old-fashioned. Most have a single round or oval mirror mounted to the child-sized table and just one drawer. Pink, white, and lavender are the most popular colors and exude a princess theme, although some modern children’s vanities feature bright colors and a movie-star theme. Your little princess will spend hours at her vanity applying her pretend makeup and styling her hair, just like real princesses do. If you have a vanity in your bedroom as well, your daughter may just be mimicking you!

If you have an older child, you can buy a vanity that will also double as a writing desk. These vanities are usually larger and have more storage space. Most vanities aren’t large enough or configured properly to serve as a computer desk, however. If you have a child who needs a computer in her bedroom, invest in a computer desk.

Adult Bedroom Vanities

Adult vanity sets come in a variety of styles. You’ll find sleek contemporary vanities as well as old-fashioned styles. You’ll also find vanities in a variety of woods and shades. A contemporary vanity can be any color. Old-fashioned vanities are usually solid wood with a varnish that brings out the grain of the wood.

When choosing your makeup vanity, consider the other colors in the room and find one that complements those tones. You should also find a style that suits your room. In addition to wood, you may find wrought iron vanities that are more in keeping with your taste and style.

Most adult-sized vanities have a single large mirror or a three-mirror panel with the two side mirrors curved inward. Depending on the size of the vanity, they may have a single drawer or as many as six drawers on either side. Some are designed to double as jewelry cases. Many vanities include a matching bench rather than a full chair with a back, which makes it easier to get in and out of the seat.
