Vanity Glossary Terms

Bathroom and bedroom vanities come in many different styles, shapes, and models. There are even discount vanities out there. However, some of these styles have tricky terminology. Check out the following glossary terms and learn all about bedroom and bathroom vanities, styles, and more.

Bathroom Vanity – a type of cabinet/table top found in the bathroom where a sink and faucet are installed.

Bedroom Vanity – a table that contains drawers and often a mirror used by women to keep jewelry and other valuables, and act as a dressing area.

Contemporary – a bedroom and bathroom vanity style that is often very clean and straight. Contemporary vanities often contain minor accents and other design attributes.

Colonial – a bedroom and bathroom vanity style that reflects the designs and styles of colonial times (early America).

Lamination – a finishing process where a bathroom vanity countertop is covered and sealed for durability.

Modern – a bathroom and bedroom vanity style that consists of state-of-the-art styles, designs, and varying colors. Often. Modern vanities have industrial designs and are made of varying material such as glass, metal, wood, and even marble.

Traditional – a bedroom and bathroom vanity style influenced by designs and styles of previous eras.

Vanity Furniture – furniture incorporated into the bathroom for storage and sitting. Similar furniture is often incorporated with bedroom vanities, such as a stool or storage container.

Vanity Lighting – lighting used to illuminate a bedroom or bathroom vanity. Such lighting is often incorporated around mirrors or above the vanity.

Vessel Sink – a style of sink that is finished on all sides and is free-standing (a.k.a. a sink that rests on top of the countertop rather than submerged in the countertop).

Victorian – a style of bathroom and bedroom vanity that incorporates styles from the Victorian era.
