What Not to Keep on Vanity Tops

Vanity tops are a great place to store hand soap, toothbrush holders, cologne, makeup, and even razors. These items make sense. They’re bathroom items that you probably use every day. So it makes sense to have them at arms reach. However, there are some items you probably shouldn’t keep on vanity tops. Here are a few of them:

We all have our place where we keep and charge our cell phones at home. Some keep it on a bedroom dresser. Others keep it on their computer desk. Some even keep it in their car. And there are those that keep and charge their cell phones in the bathroom. This is not a good spot. Why? Because it’s surrounded by water – and water is not a friend of cell phones. Keeping and charging your cell phone on vanity tops is asking for trouble. The sink is to the left, and the toilet is to the right (in some cases). It’s better to keep it out of harms way. So keep if off the vanity top.

Small Jewelry

Vanity tops, although nice and flat, weren’t meant for jewelry storage. All it takes is one slight nudge to send an expensive pearl earring down the sink drain or flying off the vanity top into the toilet, trash, or some unknown crevasse. It’s better to keep your jewelry in a jewelry box that’s on top of a dresser or vanity makeup table (/vanity-makeup-tables.html). This is the safest place for small jewelry. Vanity tops like to “eat” small jewelry and hide them from you forever.

Bathroom Cleaning Supplies

Not only does it look tacky to have brushes, bottles, and sprays on your vanity top, it can also be harmful. If you leave out powder bleach products and harsh cleaners, it’s possible the cleaner can end up on your toothbrush, in your rinsing cup, or even contact lens holder. These are places you don’t want harsh bathroom cleaners. All it takes is a slight breeze to send the cleaning product particles all around the bathroom. So keep these items under the sink, not on top of your vanity.
